Dear Miriam,

You looked really good in the Hunger blood drenched and super cunty

You kind of out shined David Bowie, because you looked polished, and posh but with a hint of dark gothicism and eighties angst.
If you escape from the coffin that Dr. Whatsherface Susan Surandan put you in, I think you should wear these:

Natalia Brilli Leather Necklace, I especially like the aesthetic of the matte black in this necklace. It's unapproachable and quite menacing, relatable to you Miriam.

Three Things

1. I hate merely repeating information that I see on other fashion websites, in fact it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine. When I go to read fashion blogs, and they are just pictures of things that I looked at on fashion news sites, or read in a magazine. But, I'm not going to comment on the news because hopefully you have read about it, or if you haven't you should read about Noki on Dazed.

The point is, the silhoutte he created for this season is fresh. To me, his aesthetic is always the same (sustainable functionality, etc.) but this time he took the clothes to a further level of visually pleasing, without sacrificing his political message of sustainability, functionality, and consumerism. The silhouette of long slender mermaid skirts and voluminous heavy top half perhaps seperately have been explored for a long time. For me crotch skimming, tight, revealing somewhat tasteful stripper/trashy wear has been relevant really all year long, and this silhoutte implies a polished, prude sensibility but with the same taste of trash with the apathetic, inhuman, distorted, cartoon-like shapes. The fact that the contortion is found through Noki's overall shape as opposed to cut-outs, and as opposed to structure is an interesting commentary. And the warrior masks are probably why I'm posting this.

2. I dressed up as Hamlet for Halloween, and I never posted the pictures because I was lazy and busy (same excuses). I sort of want to dress like this everyday. Undead make-up included. It's layered and lucious! I kind of miss my nose ring too.

Metropark leather jacket from too long ago, Complex Geometries dress, thrifted slip draped as ruff ( through skill), zippy Oak jumper (draped), and Zara drop crotch (totally ruined them today in silk screen class)

3. I did a photo shoot recently, my blonde weave is kinda cool. I kept it, and I am going to make some intense Margiela inspired jewelry in coming weeks.

Spider Web of Trashy

I finally moved in and am semi-settled. I have an abundance of new Ikea furniture (including a mammoth sheepskin made of several patched together sheepskins, it smells a bit like beef jerky) and a new kitten, evidenced by the plethora of scratches all over my body. She likes to climb up your leg if you stand in one place for too long. Anywho, I've been meaning to post about this shirt that Susan made for me for a longggg time. I got a little butt-hurt when I saw everyone at Pratt starting to imitate it so I sort of put it to the side + it was sort of dingy and I was really nervous to wash it. But the spider web top is back in full force. I'm pairing it with my sports bra ( a more tame version, I used to wear it with a black push up bra), hot shorts, my Atalanta Weller for HOH shoes, and Limon Tris (www.emmanuellimon.com) necklaces. Its a bit heartsrevolution and a bit trashy greek goddess and it totally could be goth, but it's summer :(.

We Aren't Who We Appear to Be

Sue got one of those realllllllllllly trashy shirts with the painted on "hot" body in a bikini. I had completely forgotten about the magical powers that they hold. At the beginning of the year I was designing dresses that mimicked the concept, only with abstracted fabric geometric shapes appliqued onto the garment. I decided that in continuation with the exploration of other means of structuralism I would explore faux textures.( After the cut outs and "faux structures" the next natural step for me are faux textures.) A complete kick in the face for structuralism, it's not as boring as a completely two-dimensional outfit (t-shirt,leggings, blah blah) because it gives the illusion of something more, and subsequently creates another dimension of contemplation within an outfit.
Trashy Body Illusion Tee, Marc Jacobs cut-off denim shorts, Limon- Tris Leg Bag ( a dash of three dimension never hurts, especially if it contributes to my goal as warrior princess)

These faux denim leggings remind me of Margiela's exploration of faux things, and this is why I initially bought them. They sort of go beyond the fake-texture illusion into the illusion of being skinnier than you really are. The fabric that the spandex is imitating (denim) is relatively stiff and hard to get into, so the fact that the leggings are so tight and second-skin- like creates a discomfort to the viewer- the viewer's previous assumptions about the way denim is, is momentarily put on hold.

The Blob

I found this fabulous Opening Ceremony blob dress the other day at Beacon's. It has two sleeves, a neck hole, and two dress endings, so you can essentially wear it many ways.
My favorite way to wear it is so that there is an extra sleeve hanging about channeling MMM. It sort of furthers my illusion obsession. I always love things that can be worn several ways, it's more of a design feat in my book. It's not such a one-dimensional piece because it's open to the wearer's interpretation and subsequently covers a wider range of design.

Clarissa

Having to move and pack adds another dimension of procrastination, namely wikipedia-ing old television shows. Clarissa is always in the back of my mind, because when I was a kid I used to obsess over her show. She's a ridiculous person, if you haven't seen the show. Like, ridiculous on the level compared to my procrastination. And her wardrobe was meant to accentuate this. Her outfits encompass the nineties, but have a level of high school naivety that comes out in the simplicity and trashiness of her look. The stress of the trashiness, however, isn't on the obscenity (although there is a hint of it present- but, nickelodeon can't be too obscene on a preteen show- {although in my studious wiki-pedia-ing I learned that this was the first kid's television show to talk about sex}) it's about the mis-matching juxtaposed with the unity of the outfits. I know, it doesn't make sense, but the outfits don't either.

Will and I had to do a bit of a photo shoot for this modelling gig that I'm trying to get, and one of the photo requirements was tasteful, fashion, relaxed, bathing suit pose. I naturally hate bathing suits , and so I just threw on my hot shorts and sports bra and Will and I decided that Emma Cook's boots would be the randomly placed shoes that defines most of my outfits. The outfit description-fashionable, yet relaxed says everything about Clarrissa's style. This outfit just tones it down a bit, a sort of modern interpretation. Maybe I'm just so ready to get out my winter tights?
Photobucket
And let me clarify by saying that this is the only time you will ever see me in jeans. And that I will never ever taint this blog with jeans again, but the jeans+ Atalanta Weller's (that are finally fixed and waiting to break again) is so remnicscent House of Holland SS08 collection that in combination with SS09's collection describes the Clarissa Explains It All look further.

Finals and other Unfortunate Events

Excuse the lack of posts this next week- I am in the process of moving and finals. Total drag. I'll be posting more starting next week when finals are finallllllllllllllly over and I don't have to look at any pattern paper.
Until then, I'll leave you with this that my friend Jam sent me. It looks way too good to be true. The dress and the wig....

It sort of reminds me of Jam..

And while I'm at it, I still can't get over this outfit.
