I went to Christian Joy's AVA gallery opening on Thursday night with Will, and it was a delicious display of Christian Joy's imagination. As I said in a previous post, the show was based on stories written by Christian's friends and the subsequent interpretation of such. I couldn't get full shots of the clothing because the gallery space was a bit cramped, but I captured my favorite details of each garment.
My absolute favorite piece is the cube jumpsuit because it captures a sculptural, untouchable, unapproachable type feel, with the black and geometric machine like structure.
The next one is my friend Aliya Naumoff's story of a girl who digs through trash cans to make her clothing. The deconstructed patchwork quality matches the story. The sewn in shoe detail has a nice twist.
This one has a monster/dark feel and is a bit of a horror feeling in person. The arms are leather crab claws.
This is a detail from the voodoo/ yeti/ chicken princess. It features hand fringed pants that seem to flow from the hem and keep to the voodoo/ mish mash/ tribal theme.
This one has hand embroidered states and triple collars.
And this one is silver alien space suit.

The New Pop Magazine Photo Shoot
I did a photo shoot yesterday for this online magazine. The photos aren't posted yet, but I just couldn't help myself in sharing the wonderful tape make up. I was wearing this gothic/ stripper/ tease dress, with this bold/ pop make up. It was a brilliant contrast.
The chaos that was the photo shoot:
And my co-model getting a little looney with the clothing.
I'll post the images when they are up.

Romain Kremer Deliciousness
Let me be clear in saying that I pretty much hate menswear. Close minded, I guess. Its sort of the same hate that I have for American sportswear, except its on a more international level.
However, when running my hands over Romain Kemer's A/W 08 collection a few days ago I put my bad sentiments to the side and fell in love. Aliens, deconstruction, sci-fi; all the important things in complete unison. There is a sense of playfulness in Kremer's pieces that is lacking (for perhaps commercialism reasons) in most menswear collection (Gareth Pugh's menswear was a debbie downer for sure).
These is the beautiful wonderful amazing things that I laid my hands on the other day from his A/W 08 collection, I want it all. Especially that backpack.
His SS 09 collection plays with a similar idea of deconstruction with the contrast of nude to neon and rawness contrasted with structuralism.
His latest AW 09 collection, I am bit hesitant about. But as always give me apathy, and you've won me over.

Sorry Will
I want a pair of really nice flats. I'm tired of falling on my face. The only pair of flats that I really like are these vintage Stuart Weitzmans that are perforated, studded oxfords. Seeing as they are white leather and I payed three dollars for them, they are falling a part and the leather laces are basically disintegrating. I just wish that I had a pair of shoes that I could run to when my feet are contorted and throbbing with platform pain, while not sacrificing style. And while we are having a complaint party, I need a pair of flats to wear to Chelsea during art openings, as I wore my Prada achilles heels last Thursday and due to the excessive gallery hopping, my feet are still recovering and are somewhat numb in places.
Will and I were shopping online Friday and we both liked these Junya Watanabes. I like the fact that the lace extends to the toe giving it a bit of quirk aside from it's rather "typical" ballet lace up flat style. And I like that my foot is covered and skin isn't completely showing. I have a pair of Miu Miu flats that I never wear because of the open quality. I like to have hooves for feet. One of my pet peeves I guess.
I also semi like these Margielas. But they might be a bit too simple for me. The stripe winding echoes the one leg pant though, which I am about to come undone about loving so much.
Either way, I'm not spending $700 on a pair of flats. When they go on sale at Saks I'll snatch them up.

Retro-Futurism
So I guess I am still obsessing over the House of Holland SS08 collection, because I bought the shoes by Atalanta Weller for HOH at Seven. They have a eighties aura, but still have the dash of modernism taken to the extreme. They are stupid hard to walk in, super heavy, and when you sort of trip you just go all the way down. Not for the faint at ankles. I already broke one of the straps, and the sole is coming up from one night of wearing, but I'm not too upset at the quality because they are truly beautiful platforms.
I'm finally ready to go to the moon.
I wore this out to a birthday party in Williamsburg. I felt like a sculpture.
